Overview

Ryder’s state-of-the-art Intelligent Warehouse Systems combine our Surface Mount Device (SMD) Store and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) for digitisation and efficiency.

The Intelligent Warehouse automates the process from ERP shop orders to picking components according to the correct BOM, and then delivers them to the designated SMT lines. Previously this had been a manual process, so this significantly reduces errors from the delivery and loading/unloading process of components.

Today component reels are delivered to the SMD Store with a barcode scanned upon entry and this data is entered into the ERP. Once the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) generates a request for these SMDs, the store’s handling system locates them, brings them to an AGV and sends them to the correct SMT machine. Partially consumed reels are delivered by AGV back to the SMD store, which uses an X-ray component counter to verify the quantities.

The result is a high-efficiency and highly predictable process that ensures quality for our customers with lower cost.

The automated system gives much greater throughput than its manual predecessor. Therefore, the materials used in the SMT process are delivered at the exact time they are required, resulting in a leaner process and a lower risk of errors.

The dense storage of an automated warehouse saves factory floor space. Operators are saved from the tasks of receiving, verifying, recording, picking and delivery, all of which carry the risk of errors.
